Applied Economics Research Centre (AERC) participated in discussions on cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Republic of Korea in data and statistics. The meeting took place at the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with the participation of Yang Jae Woo, Director of the Statistical Service Bureau at the Ministry of Data and Statistics of the Republic of Korea. Participants discussed the digital transformation of official statistics, the application of artificial intelligence, the use of administrative and alternative data, the integration of statistical and geospatial information, and the development of Kazakhstan’s statistical system beyond 2027.
The meeting built on the commitments set out in the Memorandum of Cooperation signed in Daejeon on 14 September 2026. The two sides agreed to move forward with practical initiatives, including expert consultations, technical meetings and joint work on digital transformation. The cooperation aims to improve the quality and timeliness of statistics, reduce the burden on respondents and expand opportunities for government, businesses and the research community to use data.
